Welcome to the very first episode of Women of a Certain Stage!

Lauren Chiren

I’m Lauren Chiren, your host, and the menopause expert behind this series.

This episode marks the beginning of a heartfelt journey, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to kick things off by inviting Claire Winter, a journalist and part of the production team, to interview me and introduce you to what this empowering and educational podcast is all about.

Embracing Menopause: My Personal Journey

My journey began with a diagnosis that changed everything. In my early forties, I experienced severe confusion and feared early-onset dementia. I was relieved to discover it was "just" menopause.

That moment became the catalyst for my mission: to educate, support, and empower women through this often misunderstood stage of life.

From being a senior leader in financial services to thinking I had dementia to discovering the true nature of my condition, I turned my personal challenges into a platform to help others.

My experiences, learning, and relentless pursuit of understanding and embracing menopause has now made me a world-renowned expert.

The Vision for Women of a Certain Stage

One of the most inspiring parts of my conversation with Claire was talking about my big-picture vision for this podcast.

Women of a Certain Stage is not just a series of episodes; it’s a community.

It’s a place where stories are shared, experts provide insights, and where everyone—from medical professionals to family members—can find support and understanding.

We’re excited to have a knowledgeable and passionate variety of guests lined up for future episodes.

From sexual health and pleasure experts like Sam Evans to former British Menopause Society Chair Kathy Abernethy, we aim to cover every facet of menopause.

What We Cover

It's not just the medical aspects; it’s about the emotional, social, and professional experiences that come with this stage.

What Makes Women of a Certain Stage Unique?

Women of a Certain Stage stands apart from other menopause podcasts because of its inclusivity and broad scope.

Menopause can happen at any age and impacts more than just women. It’s essential to recognise our transgender, nonbinary, and gender-questioning communities, too.

This podcast is for anyone who wants to learn, share, and make a real difference.

My Mission

Making menopause education freely and readily available is my calling.

Through my free menopause awareness courses, over 200,000 people have learned about menopause and I have suppoted countless others corporate training to over 400 FTSE and Fortune 500 companies.

Now, with the Women of a Certain Stage podcast, I am so excited to extend that reach even further.

A Call to Action

I leave the first episode with a strong sense of purpose and excitement.

I’ve spoken on stages across the globe, and now I’m bringing my platform to you in an accessible way.

If there was one thing I hope you take from this conversation, it’s this:

  • Menopause doesn’t have to be a silent suffering.

It’s a stage of life that can be navigated successfully with the right support and information—and that’s what Women of a Certain Stage is all about.

I encourage you to follow this journey, tune in to the episodes, and become part of this amazing community.

Together, we can change the narrative from menstruation to menopause.

Your podcast host, Lauren
